The EP is the launch of a brand new chapter and will support me on my way to my studies as a classical trumpet player at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance.
Many students incur a large cost during their time in higher education but for me as a disabled musician, there are just a few more costs involved. This EP will help me to fund a Rio Firefly - an electric-powered adaptation that will enable me to be independent around London when challenged with hills, tricky terrains and long distances.
I have to admit that recording a load of solo trumpet tracks seemed daunting for a long time, but I am so pleased that I made this - I really hope that you enjoy listening to the selection of tracks on here.
All of the tracks that are featured have a significant meaning to me from somewhere along my musical journey:
‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You’ brings back fond memories of my first ever brass band experience with Ferndown Concert Brass back in 2011, whilst ‘Love Is A Many Splendored Thing’ takes me back to my first ever solo piece performed as a principal trumpet player with the Christchurch & District Band.
The others happen to be some of my all-time favourites, but in addition, I wanted to feature ‘What a Wonderful World’ and ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’. I played these two tracks from my doorstep during the COVID-19 pandemic through the Thursday night ‘Clap for Carers’. It goes without saying that the world was turned on its head and I personally lost very close friends due to COVID-19. The idea of this fundraising EP came around during the pandemic and whilst I embark on a new chapter, I will remember old friends every time I play these tunes.
Words can’t explain how excited I am to spend four years surrounded by like-minded people doing what I love most. I have spent many years finding my feet as a trumpet player and I am now taking the big leap of faith, jumping into the big city of London. I hope to not only better myself as a musician during my time at Trinity, but to also develop my network within the arts world and start building my career as a professional player.
It’s been a real journey so far and I am so grateful for the support everyone has given me over the years, particularly my family, friends and teachers. I consider myself extremely lucky to have had so many opportunities and hope that you will continue to follow my journey along the way!
